Beauty
A couple of weeks ago, the NY Times ran an interesting article on beauty. Computer scientists in Israel have developed "beautification" software that can alter an image of a face, making it more "attractive." The software program is based on the responses of 68 men and women (of different ages and from different countries) who viewed photographs of white male and female faces and picked the most attractive ones. Scientists then took the data and applied an algorithm involving 234 measurements between facial features, including the distances between lips and chin, the forehead and the eyes, or between the eyes. In the images above: the image on the left is an actual face and the one on the right has been "beautified" by the software.
And what did the NYT article conclude? The qualities that make us unique make us beautiful.
